Locker Painting Inquiry. 10-1

Supplies hunting

Before I start any designing and painting, lets talk supplies. Supposedly, there is some paint left over from the student who was going to paint those lockers, and did paint one blue and started painting one green. Because of that, I know ill have blue, green, and white. Even if the school has a whole rainbow of colours I plan on buying a black paint marker for outlines, so they stay consistent. Ill also need to use a projector to project the design onto the locker while I work.

Ive been told Mr. Sarte will know where it is, so ill go ask him.

Mr Sarte told me 4 things. First off, some of the paint was in his class, the fish lab. Which I probably should have guessed. Second, some of the paint is a room that is no longer inquiry hub related. Third, the paint is so old it will be useless without a paint shaker. Finally, the white lockers were prepared with a latex based paint, which *does* work with regular paint I could bring from home.

Supplies hunting

Next up is the designs. So far ive planned out 3, which I feel is the amount I can paint in 25 hours. Number one is the pentapus underwater with jellyfish. Number two is a simple sunflower with a solid background. Number 3 is the most complicated, two dolphins jumping out of the water, because I just want to be a part of your symphony. Anyways, there is a secret 4th locker I should paint. Theres a green locker that is very poorly painted, so ill try to fix it. Just a full solid colour which is why I didnt count it in the 3.

I plan to paint the 3 in a checker-board like pattern. With one on the top layer, and two diagonally under it. I think I will put the dolphins on the top one but I havent decided for sure. I still need to go buy a paint marker at some point

First Locker and Xyron

I painted Keonis locker, with a tree. Another update, is that I have decided to add component to my inquiry. Im using my xyron 510 to make custom magnets to add to peoples lockers. This allows for everyone to customize their lockers easily and quickly, without feeling trapped with their designs. Im going to encourage people to add their own drawings and paintings to the lockers as is was apparently originally intended, according to Sarte. The process of painting lockers is quite different to making a digital drawing. When I draw on my iPad its a longer process with more steps. First you thumbnail sketch, then you regular sketch, then lineart, then colouring, then rendering. Painting the lockers went more like, thumbnail sketch, sketch, colour, lineart. Thats 4 steps compared to 5, which might not sound like a lot but rendering my drawings usually takes more than 3 hours per character. Sketchbooks filled with smaller drawings I had done transformed Into something useful again, as a turned them into small decorations. I even printed out some of my digital art as well.

Second Locker and Markers

I later painted Jades locker, with the design of the dolphin. I removed the second dolphin because of the lock taking up its space. I added a rainbow to the locker that was not in the original idea. I was unable to get a projector for the painting and simply did it by hand. It was quite difficult to draw, and it took all of my tenacity to do. Micheals was my next destination, I took the bus (153) down to Coquitlam Centre and bought the paint markers, I spent 30$ (40$ pre discount) on an eight pack. Regretfully I didnt get orange, brown, or peach. I considered going back to get some, but outside of packs they are double in price (10$) and I dont have a job, unfortunately.

Last Locker and conclusion

Pushing through the relatively minor colour issue, I decorated too additional lockers. Ethans was painted with colourful flowers above the lock hole and an underwater themed mural, and Angies was painted with frogs and eventually became surrealist. I think Angies locker was my worst work in the whole project, but when I kept adding it became better!. 3 fully painted lockers ended up being too high of a goal. My maximum was 2 painted with an additional 2 drawn lockers, however Im not *particularly* disappointed as I also did they magnets and stickers which would have been collecting dust with the old drawings I used.
